Cisco VPN Client and Windows 8 Developer Build

Just to update, the legacy Cisco VPN client (5.0.07.0440 for x64, 5.0.07.0410 for x86) is working for some people. You need to apply a small workaround as explained below –

·    Open Registry editor by typingregedit in Run prompt

·    Browse to the Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CVirtA

·    Select the DisplayName to modify, and remove the leading characters from the value data up to the last "%;" i.e.

o    For x86, change the value data from something like "@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter” to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter”

o    For x64, change the value data from something like "@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows” to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows”

·    Try connecting again

Please do revert back if this solution does not work.

small correction on how to fix Cisco VPN Client in Windows 8

I installed Windows 8... looks clumsy, but OK, 99.9% programs work, Cisco VPN Client (2.5.3055) does not.... after some research and tests i got solution:

1. your local area connection - change adapter properties in Sharing tab - uncheck "Allow other network users..."

2. fix registry entries (you can save text below as fix.reg and run)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CVirtA]
"DisplayName"="Cisco AnyConnect VPN Virtual Miniport Adapter for Windows"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpnva]
"DisplayName"="Cisco AnyConnect VPN Virtual Miniport Adapter for Windows"

Hi,

"For x64, change the value data from something like "@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows” to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows”

Using the above instruction I can connect and ping our network.  I am still having problem connect to my computer at work.  I tells me my work PC is not on (I can ping it), it connected fine with Windows 7.

Any suggestion?

Thanks,

Pedro Reis

Thanks. I've tried many... just this solution worked in my Windows 8.

Try to put the error code and description to make search easier. I was looking for the solution for this error: "Reason 442: Failed to Enable Virtual Adapter - Windows 8"

May I add my similar fix.  I am running Windows 8 MSDN (October 1, 2012).  My key was located in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpnva
Same fix, and I am in. Thanks!
